Sweet and Salty Crunch Nut Bars Recipe

When Hubby and I saw Nigella making these on the telly, he gave me 'the look'.
The 'I hope we'll be having those next week' look.

How could I resist? I love sweet and salty and often enjoy salt and vinegar crisps with a Mars bar for company...mmm...yum.

These delicious sweet and salty slabs are unbelievably moorish and Hubby called them 'insanely good'.  The bars are near perfect but hubby and I both agreed the mix could do with an extra Crunchie and a handful less peanuts, you still want more peanuts than Crunchie but we both could have done with a little extra Honeycomb.

This recipe is a total winner, not only are the bars amazingly delicious but the method is an absolute breeze.
We devoured the whole lot in two days and I know I'll be making more soon, Hubby will insist.

I actually used 250g milk chocolate and 50g dark, just for personal taste, Nigella suggests and I totally agree that you should use what ever you like best, just make sure there is 300g of chocolate in total.

Sweet and Salty Crunch Nut Bars

Recipe From - Kitchen: Recipes From the Heart of the Home
 by Nigella Lawson

200g dark chocolate
100g milk chocolate
125g unsalted butter
1 x 15ml tbsp golden syrup
250g salted peanuts
2 x 80g Crunchie bars

1 x 25cm spring-form tin (or other round cake tin) or 1 x foil tray approx. 30 x 20 x 5cm

In a saucepan, break the chocolates into pieces and add the butter and golden syrup. Melt gently over low heat.

Tip the peanuts into a bowl and crush the Crunchie bars with your hands, letting the golden-glinting rubble fall into the nuts.

Take the melted chocolate mixture off the heat and stir in the peanuts and crushed Crunchie bars, then tip straight to the foil tray. Smooth the top of the mixture and put it in the fridge for about four hours before cutting into slices as desired.

Made this today to finish off my gift hampers. It is yum. I agree that it could do with slightly more honeycomb so I should have listened to you before I started.
